Be safe for 2013

Christmas season is already here and every time people celebrate this festive season firecrackers are one of the main events. Buying firecrackers is part of the things to do by many of us, aside from buying gifts for exchange gifts and spending for foods for Noche Buena and Media Noche.

However, the Department of Health (DOH) is asking people to avoid using firecrackers because accidents could happen. A number of people loosing some of their fingers, hands or even arms and legs are some of the cases encountered everytime we welcome the New Year. Instead of celebrating with joy, some celebrate it with sadness and regret.

On the website of DOH, it is said that they already started with the campaign “APIR (Aksyon Paputok Injury Reduction), IWAS PAPUTOK” and encouraging people to use horns, pots and pans, loud music, street parties on making noise.

Since 1992, there is already a law, Republic Act 7183, which regulates the use, the manufacturing, selling and distribution of firecrackers and even Pyrotechnic devices.

Even the environmental group EcoWaste Coalition is joining forces with the DOH on Iwas Paptok Campaign, but it is called Iwas PapuToxic. They said using firecrackers is not helpful to the environment and making it more polluted. They also supports’ DOH drive on using horns or loud musics.

Part of the campaign is this: click here and enjoy! =)
